“He was withered, wrinkled, and loathsome of visage.” Using the narrative of Mikey’s favourite book by Oscar Wilde as its creative inspiration, The Picture of Mikey Kratzer is an aesthete-meets-athlete redemption story of two parts.
Firstly, in German ultra-runner Mikey’s decision to return to The Speed Project having failed to complete his solo mission in 2024. But, also crucially, redemption in the wider context of the transformative role running has had on his life.
Ten years ago Mikey was in a dark place in which drinking & DJ-ing were the ubiquitous, yet unwanted, dominant forces in his day-to-day life. Fast forward to 2025 and “10 years sober, 10 years married” Mikey has transformed his outlook, and himself. The Speed Project and a solo 500km journey from Los Angeles to Las Vegas helps paint a vivid picture of that transformation - and Mikey’s reasons for running.
