The London Marathon Community Track, standing in the shadow of the 2012 Olympic stadium in Stratford, is an enduring legacy of those successful Olympic Games.
Built as the warmup track, runners can catch a glimpse inside the main stadium as they round the bend past the 100m finish.
Look through the tunnel and you’re momentarily transported back a decade - you can hear the noise and feel the energy and excitement of the tens of thousands of spectators back then, waiting for the elites to emerge, primed and ready to perform on the world’s biggest stage.
PUT TO THE TEST
What place better then, to bring together a group of runners on a chilly March evening to test out some top tier track and road shoes from On?
After a warmup and some activations led by coach Jonty, runners laced up in a choice of On Cloudspikes or Echobooms, ready to put these super shoes through their paces with a solid interval session.
The crew ran a challenging pyramid set, focussed on 10km to half marathon distance, pushing through the gears to maintain pace across the longer efforts.
Feedback across the board was positive - “snappy”, “responsive”, “quick” was the verdict - although a couple of extra notches on the thermometer wouldn’t have gone amiss.
TRACKSIDE
The team at STYRKR also came down to fuel the night and answer any nutrition questions. Their full range of gels, bars and drinks were on hand throughout for anyone needing to stock up ahead of peak marathon season, and they dished out their electrolyte mix post-session to kick start recovery.
Thanks to On, STYRKR and everyone for coming down and making a great night of it!
A really fun night! Worth braving the cold to test out the Cloudspikes!
