When a shoe has had 24 editions released since conception - like the Saucony Hurricane 24 - chances are it’s developed a bit of a cult following, and for good reason. First dropping on the scene as the 3D GRID Hurricane in 1997, the Hurricane had become a stalwart in the stability shoe game until Saucony announced in 2022 that they would be discontinued from their lineup. But it’s back! In 2024, an overhauled Hurricane was released and we instantly added it to our Runlimited inventory.

First things first, the Hurricane is a stability shoe designed for those every-day miles. The generous amount of cushioning comes in the form of Saucony’s PWRRUN and PWRRUN PB foam, engineered for durable responsiveness that will stand up to the test of miles throughout a training cycle.

On testing, and through hundreds of gait analyses, we find fit is true to slightly small, meaning we recommend sizing up by .5 if you are between sizes. Generally the volume of the shoe (the depth of the upper) is a hair smaller than average, so may fit a little more snug across the top of the foot. However, the toe-box is suitably roomy, so we had no concerns through the forefoot. Lacing up for a run, the Hurricane has a nice secure fit without feeling restrictive or overly engineered.

That first step into the shoe is reassuringly plush, a feeling that carries into the ride once you get running. It’s noticeable how spry and responsive the Hurricanes are: a pleasant surprise for a shoe with a chunkier look and stability built through the midsole. A 6mm offset (the difference in stack-height between your heel and toe, also known as drop) strikes a nice balance of encouraging turnover with a balanced, supportive feel underfoot.

With support - sometimes also known as stability - shoes, brands build a system into the midsole of the trainer to prevent large amounts of overpronation at the ankle. For Saucony, the Hurricane combines a denser foam through the instep with a wide base to achieve a gently supportive ride that wouldn’t feel out of place for a neutral runner.

We loved the neat detailing of the heel tab which compliments the overall aesthetic of the shoe whilst also meaning you can clip the shoes together and to a bag when travelling - with a bulkier silhouette this helps in saving space in your luggage. Also, Saucony have ensured it is all vegan, boosting Saucony’s sustainability creds.

Reactions from our testers and from gait analysis tests have picked up on the comfort factor, noting the under-foot plushness that remains responsive throughout the entire ride. “Way lighter than expected” is another common response to the first spin in the Hurricane, which holds up throughout the course of a run.

Great for:

Runners who like a supportive ride looking for a shoe to go the distance day-in, day-out with a little stability for overpronation.

Verdict:

A welcome return to the scene for a classic every-day trainer.
