In a sentence, tell us about yourself
Born in Essex, lost the accent somewhere along the way, and ended up in Peckham; I love dogs, running and water - easily pleased and easily disappointed.
What gets you up in the morning? What’s the first thing you do?
I’m a breakfast lover and a creature of habit. Being injured for the last 3 months has changed my routine somewhat. I’d usually wake up hungry, eat the same breakfast that I eat every day (porridge with banana, yoghurt and pecan butter) and head straight out for a run, but I’ve recently been enjoying a slow morning, catching up with my partner and having a big cuddle with my dog Winnie.
What gets you out the door to run?
There’s something that running gives me that I can’t find from anything else. I absolutely love the rhythm and routine of the sport. It can take you anywhere, I’ve discovered so many new places and seen things I wouldn’t normally see. Even when I struggle to get out the door when it’s cold, dark and wet I know that I’ll never regret it once I do. Having a coach helps, keeps me accountable and means I don’t have to think about what I’m doing.
What excites you about the running community in London?
The most exciting thing for me is the scale of the running community in London, I feel like I’ve only just dipped my toes. There are so many incredible clubs, communities, individuals out there running, each with their own personalities, motivations and goals. London can be a lonely place, and running can change that - there’s something for everyone.
What was your personal inspiration behind Runlimited?
Running has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up competing for my school and an athletics club, so my focus was on performance, which I loved. But when I started a run club back in 2019 I realised how amazing and diverse the running community could be. For Jonty and I, we found running from opposite sides of the spectrum, so for me it felt right to combine his experience with community run clubs with my competitive background in traditional athletics. With Runlimited, I wanted to create a space for everyone - no judgement, just running. I hope Runlimited is a store that people feel comfortable in whether they are running for the first time or a seasoned runner.
Favourite shoe of all time?
Oooh tricky one.
The shoes I wore when I properly fell in love with running were the Brooks Adrenaline, since then the Hylo IMPACT have become a firm favourite. They perfectly complement my gait and are a brand which align with all my values.
For a race shoe, it has got to be the Adidas Pro 3, I use them for every distance. I can’t wait to get back to full fitness and take the Pro 4s out to the start line.
For sessions/track, when I fancy running in a plated shoe, I’m wedded to the Saucony Endorphin Speed.
Give us some London recs, what should we be checking out?
Running-wise, I love to get lost on trails in Epping Forest. We have a few routes on our online run hub that are great. Top spots for hill reps are Hilly Fields in Ladywell or Springfield Park in Upper Clapton. It’s tough to find a hill that’s long enough in London, but these are perfect! I spent lockdown running around the Olympic Park, Walthamstow and Hackney Marshes - you can easily clock up a lot of uninterrupted miles.
For Food and drink, I have a list of specific favourites: a Flapjack from Nola in Peckham; Hobnob cookie from Toad Bakery, Peckham. Cauliflower fritti from Forza Wine, and grab yourself a cocktail while you’re there. My go-to Vegan restaurant is Mallow in Borough Market. Masala Dosa from Calm Indian Cow at Broadway Market at the weekend.
Other: Check out Perambulations for amazing architectural walks around London. Sauna Social Club in Peckham for sauna and ice bath sessions. Bodied in East London for a sports massage. I used to live at Yonder in Walthamstow, it’s an amazing climbing gym, yoga studio, workspace.. It has it all!
I absolutely love the rhythm and routine of the sport.
